sailfish, sailfish, sailfish

Yesterday was the first day that I've had the opportunity to ride on the Dragin Fly since the last tournament, over a month ago.   Not only did I get a chance to ride along, but I also got a chance to hook a few fish.   Tournament starts tomorrow, it's going to be crazy, we had over 50 bites yesterday.   I did some calculations and the Dragin Fly is closing in on billfish # 10,000, over 1000 since Jan. 1.

shad fishing

It looks a lot like bait to me, but after 3 months of a NC winter, it's pretty good action and pretty good sport on the right tackle, especially when you are getting a bite about every 3 casts
----Capt. Greg Voliva
And when you get into a nest of them the action is two at a time

Crystal Coast Report from Capt. Chris

"I've heard there are some specs and reds inside, I know the bottom fishing off the beach has to be good and with all that hot water on Eastside probably good fishing over there 68-70degrees inside of 15 miles  (aj, shark, bottom, flounder ect maybe even a cobia)"

Cobia season is going to be very busy, already booking a lot of trips.

little white dogs and skunks

I'm in charge of sending proof of life pictures of Anna's dog, usually required with the daily newspaper in order to verify date.    His appearance has changed.   We were on the before bedtime piss walk when Riley caught wind of something and gave chase.    I usually encourage the little guy to run the rabbit around the yard at home, here in Costa Rica he is all about the coates, which are like raccoons, he loves it when they scramble up the palm trees to escape is ferociousness.

Last night he bolted after something, cornered in the bushes in front of my van which I was standing next to.   Then I heard it.  Sounded like two distinct burst of spray from a Windex bottle.   Out comes Riley from the shrubs with this funny look on his face and then the wall of skunk stench hits me.  Powerful stuff at that range.

There was no tomato juice in the house, now there is no more pasta sauce, ketchup or bloody mary mix and Riley's hair was died pink until I picked him up from the groomer about an hour ago.

Gift of the airlines

I guess I picked up this chest cold on the way to Raleigh, it hit me hard on the way back on Sunday, but I recovered enough to spend some time in the water yesterday.   I got a bite that hit my mullet so hard it was knocked off the hook....I guess I should have hooked it a little deeper, but it sure was swimming nice.   About 2 minutes later I was locked and loaded with that cast net, waste deep and hoping to catch another bait.  It was getting pretty dark, but just enough light to see the mullets showering and coming right at me.   They were getting chased by that rooster who ended up between my legs trying to get at the mullet using me for cover.   It all happened pretty quick, in mid launch I decided that it was not a good idea to have that rooster in my net so I aborted mid-throw and everything ended up in a knot.   Gotta try that again today......
