Capt. Ray says

Good red puppy fish catching

Got Trout? Boat riding with a legend.

Fly Daddy is in the background

My report today was pretty dismal.   Saw a few albies this morning busting on some very large bait, ballyhoo and jumbo shrimp.   They put on quite a show when they were on top, but they didn't stay on top long.   Although disappointed not to put my sports on some fish, it was a beautiful day on the water and it was a pleasure to pass the time with a couple of legends.   I can say that I do not have the excuse  "my customers just couldn't cast".   I was fishing with Bob Clouser and his manager, Linda.

report

Good bite on the albies today, I hope they are there tomorrow for the Wounded Warriors.  Trout hit the beach, I should have left on my first cast which was made after sunset and yielded a 3 pound trout.  The only bite I had.   I can kill a bite.

Trout Report

A lot of folks have been waiting for the waters to cool and start concentrating the trout.  Now we are seeing the effects of last year's freeze.   The little guys seemed to have fared well and there are a gazillion trout mostly under 13 inches.   Seems like everywhere you go you can catch a few, but not many keepers.  Then just around the bed you'll run into a school of 3-5 pounders, really great class of fish, but almost zero keepers in the 1-2 pound range.

In short, plenty of action and shots at a few really nice fish.   Pic is from Capt. Joe and reports are from Joe and Mitch.  Capt. Ray says trout are also in the lower Neuse along with the best catches of puppy drum we've had all year.

albie report

Yes, there are some around, but they are mighty scattered.   Joe gave up on the fly but put his customers in the meat by trolling around some hard ware.   Sometimes you've got to Drag some Fly.   They were happy to get the pulledge.

wahoo fishing is on fire and yes The Run Off has openings

Check out this weeks catch and see yourself on the board for next week's report.

Silver King Lodge

As a result of the new management team at Silver King Lodge who has done a great job of revitalizing the lodge, coupled with the best tarpon fishing in the world, availability is getting very limited for the peak of their seasons:  May/June and September/October.

In fact, October is almost booked up as I struggle to pick dates for our annual trip.   If you have been following along and looking at the pics, contact me NOW to get on the calendar for next year.

Tarpon Talley

3 days of fishing and Tom Cat and I were 41 tarpon releases for 65 bites.

The Big Dipper came on strong this afternoon with over 20 releases for a 3 day total of 52 tarpon releases for 75 bites.

I'm not about advocating the numbers, but the numbers do tell the story, there is no better place in the world to catch lots of tarpon than Costa Rica.

report from the crystal coast

"Ablies, Spanish, blues, a few aj's...dirty water. Hoping things improve soon...still some wahoo offshore, waiting on kings to move in once water cleans up. Overall fishing is fair." -----Capt. Chris

That's not bad considering the crazy storms that we've had, will keep you posted.

Costa Rica tarpon report with Tom Cat

14 for 20 in 3 hours this afternoon then we ran out of bait and started casting bucktails, not so good on the hook up ratio but fun watching them jump, ended up 17 for 32 for the day.  pics to follow

So how is the fishing after the storm?

Here in Costa Rica it's pretty good with some double digit days on the sailfish, plenty of sunshine with afternoon showers.   From the pics and report that Mitch sent me today, it looks like it's about time for me to come home......got to mess with some tarpon this weekend, but I'll be back soon.
Yes, there are still a few big drum around.......

"Too high, too muddy, too fresh, too long after a hard NE'r,  they can't be catching fish, besides it's rained for 14 days in a row.  Everyone has an excuse, but today none were needed, put them up in smoke with 7 species and a couple of  humdingers."    -----Capt. Mitch

weathering the storm?

Looks like SC is getting the worst of it although the water is high and unfishable out of Oriental.   Here in Costa Ric, the rainy season is beautiful, rains every evening for about an hour and cools things off.   Penty of sunshine during the day and the sailfish are biting.   Weather is here, wish you were beautiful.

Near Miss?

Looks like this storm is going to pass by offshore.   Capt. Chris isn't missing a beat, having a double digit day with these.
