From Capt. Ray on the Neuse

"Carried the kids out this after noon. They caught 33 stripers in 2 hrs on top water. In the stumps.  Sometimes catching them 3 at a time......."----capt. Ray

Me, I caught a cobia sight casting while in the Turning Basin, just climbed up in the tower and there he was paddling along with all the other boats.    Only one I saw.  Still a few bites on the bottom with those who have the patience to shag sharks.  Bait balls, sharks, nice blues and spanish on the east side.  Very pretty over there, but did not see a cobia

Cobia report

I ain't got one.
Slow go for me and the nearly 300 miles I have zig zagged over the past several days.   I have seen very few cobia and even resorted to bait fishing today.   I get enough of that in August and September, so as long as it is sunny, I have been wandering around and hoping for the motherload around the corner.

The guys who have concentrated on bait fishing have been getting their pick, but I don't think it has been red hot for anybody.   At least there have been a few Spanish around, although they alos have elluded me the last couple of days.

Looks like the clouds are going to keep me in the office for a few days.

Report

OK, got mine today, 3 cobias to be exact, they weren't monsters but they will put a little flavor into the grease.   Capt. Greg has been steady and is on a streak, catching them every day....and some nice 'uns also.   Here are some pics from the last three days.

These guys started with Greg and finished the last couple of days on the Roanoke.   How is the fishing up there?   Well, it's not bad, but not red hot, although it does have a lot of potential. Water levels have stabilized and there are still a lot of spawning fish, which can make them pretty finicky for a lot of the day......but when they go to biting, you need to be there, often early and late.

Got cobia?

Took Greg about 2 hours to limit out yesterday.

Friday, May 12, 2017

yes, we have cobia

Well, yesterday, we had cobia.   I broke Greg's gaff off in a nice 50 pounder yesterday.  If you catch it, please give me my half of a gaff back.   Greg called just minutes ago and said that his new gaff works well, he just landed a 50 pounder, but it was not the same one.

Meet Melissa

Melissa has been volunteering on the phones, some of you have talked to here while we have been away.   She was tired of talking about fishing and got out to do a little of her own.

Yes, some of these have hit the beach also

Picture courtesy of Capt. Roy Heverly.   Roy will be helping us with some cobia trips this year.  He was fantastic for our folks last year and we look forward to working with him again.  Give us a ring to get your day on the water.

This should last into Memorial Day

If they keep the water up, it'll be good for a lot longer.  Capt. Mitch has been getting into the action also:

Greg, Jennings, Justin and Mitch are all rnning some good trips in some parts of the river many customers have never seen.   We have a list of their openings if you would like to go.

Consistent triple digit days.

The bite may temporarily fall off when the water drops, but as it stabilizes, they will fire off again.
