striped bass season extended one week on the Roanoke

a fish a minute

That high water I was whining about sure did send a lot of fish up the river.   Capt. Greg just called and said they were getting at least one fish/minute using 3 rods.   We have 3 guides on the water today and betweeen the three of them they are on track to catch over 1000 striped bass in one day!  Greg is about a third the way there on his boat and it's not even 11 am.

Reeling for Research

Congrats to Capt. Stewart for representing Down East Guide Service at the Reeling for Research Inshore Tournament, winning the overall and largest fish.   Stewart is one of the great guides with whom we are booking  our customers.

I had a chance to get out for one last day, bringing home some nice tuna loins and I got to catch one more blue marlin before heading to NC and prepping for cobia season. 

We have a few openings in May and early June for some serious blue marlin fishing at the seamounts.   Ring me up about these last openings and the details.   There is nowhere on the planet that multiple marlin shots are often the norm with daily double digits common.

51 teams from around the world competing in the Super Bowl of Sportsfishing.

Each day they fish on a different boat.   Dragin Fly has had the prestigeous honor of being the top boat a couple of times and it looks like they are in the running again. 

This is typically the last tournament of the year.   A good performance by the Dragin Fly in this tournament reminds me that one common factor for success is that I am not on the boat!

No you don't have to go to the Roanoke for a decent day of fishing.   Not triple digits, but a good day on the water and just as many keepers.

excellent start to the season

Greg's first striper trip of the year was way into double digits.   A full day on the water and they probably would have caught over a hundred stripers, some up to 5 or 6 pounds.   Pretty good fishing for April 12.

Quick limit on the Roanoke

Capt. Greg reports well into double digits and an easy limit within an hour of leaving the boat ramp. 

Shaping up to be an excellent year.  Not many openings left now, call asap to get out there.

Roanoke Report

Excellent fishing for hickory shad and a few of the larger white shad and stripers mixed in.  Won't be long before things bust lose.   Few half day openings over the next several weeks.
