Capt. Greg Voliva and Capt. Chris Kimrey reports
The lower Neuse is not the only place that fired off on this nor'easter. Capt. Greg reports the best big drum fishing of the year, I can attest to that, leaving them biting with a quadruple header yesterday afternoon. Also good "beating the banks" with a nice sign of flounder and puppy drum, both keepers and a lot of 28-30 inch fish that are too big to keep. While beating the banks we've run into the big drum and accidentally caught some on "mini-rods". Double digit mornings on the corks and the afternoons on bait. The fishing is really good and should remain. All of the fish that we caught yesterday afternoon have not finished what they came here to do and the good drum fishing should remain through the end of the month and until the next full moon.
On the coast, Capt. Chris Kimrey says that summer is over and fall fishing has begun.
"Fishing is firing off, with the NE winds forecast the rest of the week it should maintain or even improve. There are huge numbers of bait balls, shad and small bait moving around inlets and near beaches. With great numbers of Spanish mackerel, false albacore and blues chewing. (All casting, lite spinning and fly tackle) The near shore king mackerel fishing is improving seemingly each day as well. Also, bottom fishing for grouper ect...should follow suit especially with the full moon on it's way out. We have super water clarity and the fall bite is moving in fast. Pray for good weather and no storms so it will continue." ----Capt. ChrisKimrey
We have Down East Guides open in both locations. The best of it is here right now.
