reality report
Ha, that one we caught off the dock was the only one we caught all day! Now don't get me wrong, we had a box full of fish: flounder, sheepshead and trout, but when we tried to catch Gray a big 'un, I could not make it happen.
Yesterday was about the same, I caught a big one first thing in the morning with pictures going around before 8 am, but I did not get another big drum bite until just after sunset that afternoon. I should have just fished the first and last hour of the day. Fortunately my afternoon bite was a double header and gave all my anglers a chance at a fish of a lifetime, ....although Sam I am got 2 for himself.
Yesterday afternoon the same guides who were having double digits a week ago could not catch double digits with a combined effort, myself included. I'll blame it on the new moon, why not?
With this much effort, we are going to land on them soon enough and there are still a lot of fish heading this direction. I'm predicting a late season with excellent big drum action well into October.
The "tough" fishing is putting things in perspective. It's a big deal for a lot of people to have your picture taken with a dinosour in your lap and we've been glad to do it even if only 1 or 2 fish at a time.
